Since most of us started our two-wheeling on bicycles, visitors enjoy the wide array of bicycles and related artwork in the Museum’s Bicycle Gallery. From “bone shakers” and high wheelers, even early shaft drive bikes to a range of deluxe “tank” bikes, and of course Schwinn Sting Rays, this display area will bring back many memories. But in the past month a very remarkable Merkel bicycle arrived for display. Wood-rimmed wheels were typical in its 1910 era, but you will be most amazed by this Merkel’s original orange paint, pinstripes and transfers.
